Anheuser-Busch has a long history of using adorable puppies, computer-generated frogs and its world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales in commercials to sell beer and fun – all while tugging at consumers’ heartstrings or tickling their funny bones.
Today, in a new ad, Budweiser is using another of its animal actors to promote responsible drinking.
As part of its Global Be(er) Responsible Day campaign, the beer giant released the 60-second “Friends Are Waiting” commercial, highlighting the friendship between a man and his dog, referred to as simply “Buddy” in the ad.
One night, when Buddy’s friend leaves with five of his own friends – and a six-pack of Budweiser – the friend doesn’t return. We see Buddy waiting by the door, the window and at on the sofa.
The story has a happy ending. But that’s not always the case, as Budweiser points out, followed by: “But we can change that. Make a plan to make it home. Your friends are counting on you.”
